Gemeindealpe

Altitude 800m–1,626m

Two modern chairlifts bring you to the top of this 1,626m high mountain – and they can also bring you down again, too! The top of this mountain probably boasts the best panorama in the Mariazell region. From here you have a view over the Erlaufsee and Mariazell, from the alpine foothills over the Schneeberg, Rax and Hochschwab mountains to the peaks in the Gesäuse.

Comfortable, welcoming places serving down-to-earth food will ensure that you never go hungry or thirsty. The new Terzerhaus is definitely worth a visit. The modern low energy building with its glass façade and panorama terrace guarantees you a fantastic view over the Mariazell region to the Dürrenstein mountain.

Stop off at Middle Station in the summer and you can whiz down the mountains in mountain carts or on monster scooters. The 4.6 km track winds its way down to the valley and is a great experience for daredevils of all sizes and ages!
Paragliding is both a summer and winter sport here, almost regardless of which way the wind is blowing.
Fantastic runs, deep snow pistes and simple ski tours will get skiers? and snowboarders? adrenalin flowing.

Ski touring

The Gemeindealpe is THE insider?s tip for ski tour fans. A range of routes and different options covering an altitude differential of over 800 m take you from the valley to the summit of the Gemeindealpe. The route covers everything from flat, moderate, forested areas to very steep climbs out in the open (minimal risk of avalanches).
All routes lead to the Terzerhaus and from there continue on the level, heading north to the nearby cross on the summit. From the cross on the summit you can enjoy a fantastic panorama, with a view over the Ötscher and Hochschwab mountains and to the Gesäuse – weather permitting of course. And a pit-stop at the Terzerhaus is always recommended, no matter what the weather.
